Frisky (a.k.a Moose)

My Best friend

I first bought Frisky back in May of 2009 she was the cutest little ferret in the whole cage she was 6 months old, I knew she was the one I wanted when I picked her up and she continuously kissed my hand. I took her home and fell in love with my new best friend. A year passed and in 2010 my family and I decided to get Frisky ( or Moose as we liked to call her) a little friend so that's when we got her a sister we named Squeakers ( or as I like to call her Goose) They (thankfully) bonded easily. The first time Moose was ill was when she was under a year old, and I knew instantly something was wrong, she wasn't playing with her Loofa dogs or dooking around. So I took her to the vet to find out she had some sort of GI issue going on, thankfully that was resolved with medication. As time passed things were going great, life was wonderful with my two fur babies, until the summer of 2012 when Moose started to lose hair on her tail, The vet said it could be seasonal hair loss and pay attention for other signs. So I did, and by fall time Moose grew her hair back. Fast forward to late fall of 2013 I noticed her hair loss again but this time it was progressing, the vets at Parkview animal hospital said that it could be flea allergies because they spotted a tad bit of flea dirt on my other ferret? So I treated the problem of "flea dirt" and waited a few months and nothing changed. I then took Moose back in and they said it could possibly be adrenal gland disease and the way to control it was through a implant or injection. I made an appointment and came back in February of 2014 to get the implant, I noticed after a few weeks a great change in Moose she was getting her hair back, she was more alert, eating more, playing with her sister again, life was good once again, I felt that my baby would be around for a long time at that point. In April of 2014 my boyfriend called me frantic because Moose was staggering and seemed disoriented, I rushed home and took her to the vet, I had a feeling it had something to do with blood sugar. and low and behold it was, on top of everything this poor girl now had Insulnoma, The vet prescribed her Prednisone. I brought her for weekly glucose checks in the beginning until we found a dose that would work well for her...As the weeks passed things seemed ok, until I noticed she was having intermittent diarrhea so back to the vet we went, they put her on Mitronidazole, (which she HATED!!!).Amoxicillian, Omeprazole and of course the Prednisone.but she had to have them. My boyfriend and I noticed she was starting to act out of sorts yet again, even on the meds, so off to the vet yet again (poor Moose) the vet stated that the Suprelorin implant must've stopped working and she recommended we get her the Lupron injection monthly, I was reluctant at first because I thought it might be too much for her little body to go through, but I had to try. So I made an appt. and took her back on June 3rd ( my son's birthday) for the injection. I noticed later that evening she was really unstable, barely trying to move, and when she did she was very slow. So I gave it a day, and she didn;t feel like eating, The vet said as cruel as it sounds you're going to have to force feed her, which I did, I would get up a half hour earlier for work, to give her, her meds, and feed her. Then when I would get home from work the first thing I did was feed her, then 2 hours later, and then before bed. I held her and cleaned her, and loved her as much as I could I prayed day and night and begged for God to help me heal her, for God to heal her, but nothing..no amount of begging and pleading could save my little angel. I had to make the hardest decision I ever had to make on Monday June 9th,2014 (less than a week after her injection). I couldn't watch one of my best fur babies die slowly. I had to say goodbye. This is one of the hardest experiences I ever had to face so far. I would gladly give all I have just to have her back and healthy again. But I know that's not possible.A part of me went with her that night. All I have are the memories, love and laughter that this little animal has given me. She was more then just a pet she was family she was my best friend and I will love and miss her as long as I live.
