My Wonderful Max
I adopted Max March, 2011 from the Michigan Pit Bull Rescue. He was pit bull/boxer mix, and I have now found out he was 5 years old at that time. He had been in 4 other homes before me adopting him, not because of him, but because of the people. Last home he was in, he was kept outside 24/7, against the rescue adoption papers, and also had contracted heartworm because they did not keep up his vaccinations. When I adopted Max, I told him, this is your forever home, and it was. I am sad to say, Max became at first diabetic and then it went into Cushing's Disease - it all happened so quickly - within a 2 week period. I was up with him 3-4 times a night for his water and going out even though I work part time. I did not mind a bit helping my Max. However, things got worse, and on 10/9/15, my beloved Max had to be put down. I had him first at AEC on Sunday, 9/27, where he was diagnosed with the diabetes, and then had him at his regular vet's by 9/28 for monitoring. While doing his 8 hour monitoring on 10/9, it was discovered his sugar was over 700 and his kidneys and liver were affected, indicating Cushing's Disease. I could tell he wasn't himself, and was in pain and suffering. This has been very difficult for me to have my Max put down -- he was my companion, my protector, and yet a gentle dog. I will miss him always.
