In Loving Memory of Daisy

Daisy

Daisy, you were there for me through some of my most challenging times, and somehow became one of the most important parts of my own little family.

After we lost Mom, you came to live with me and my family, and what started as us simply taking care of you became so much more. You became my kids best friend too.

You were almost 17 years old, and you certainly made sure we knew you were here. 😂 You could be stubborn, loud, mischievous, and sometimes drive us absolutely crazy. You had accidents in the house ever since mom left, no matter how many times we let you out, barked when we desperately wanted you to be quiet, and somehow managed to throw up on the brand-new white rug of all places. You weren't perfect—and neither were we—but you were ours.

You had your quirks, too. You had a very strange love for $1 bills and apparently absolutely no interest in anything higher denomination. You once found a $100 bill and shredded it to pieces, much to dads horror. 😂 That is one story about you that I will probably tell forever.

You loved your people. You slept with Liliana. You were part of our children's childhoods. You were there for ordinary days, hard days, happy days, and everything in between.

And when you became sick, we tried so hard to hold onto you. We wanted more time. We wanted you to get better. We weren't ready to say goodbye.

But when your body became too tired to keep going, we made the hardest decision a person can make for an animal they love. We chose to let you go peacefully rather than make you fight through the suffering you quickly expierenced.

I hope you knew that when we were crying, it wasn't because we were afraid of letting you go... it was because we loved you so much.

I hope you knew that every hand touching you, every voice telling you we loved you, and every tear falling for you was just another reminder that you were surrounded by your family.

You didn't leave this world alone.
You left knowing the people you loved were right there with you.

Daisy, I'm sorry for every time I got frustrated. We are sorry for every time I yelled when you barked or got upset over another accident. We wish I could go back and appreciate those moments differently now.

But I hope you knew that the frustration was never bigger than the love. You were annoying as heck sometimes (but so are out human kids). 😂 And we would give anything to have you annoy us one more time.

The house is quieter now. There's an empty space where you used to be, and we're going to have to learn how to live around it.

But you left behind almost (one month shy of) 17 years of memories, and we will carry those with us forever.

Thank you for being Daisy.
Thank you for being ours.
Run free, sweet girl. No more pain. No more weakness. No more struggling to stand. No more being told to stay out of the white couch 😂
Go find Mom.
And if you happen to find a $1 bill along the way, you know exactly what to do with it. ❤️

Until we see you again, Daisy.
You were loved. You are missed. And you will never be forgotten.

🐾 Forever our girl. 🐾
